Rocha Pino

Jose Rocha is born in 1979 into a family with no connection to the world of art. At the age of 25, he enrolled in the Stone Masonry School of Poio where he started working with different types of stones. During his studies he learned granite sculpture and modelling. Good reviews from teachers and schoolmates, along with a relative ease and the pleasure of creation encouraged him to focus interest on the world of sculpture while still in the school he participates in the Nobel peace prize winner Perez Esquivle`s sculptural group, located in Poio. He also carries out other small projects for Brazil, Germany or Galiza. He has won several sculpture and modelling competitions and participates in national and international symposiums receiving awards and recognition. Once his studies are completed, and graduated as Master Stonemason, he started teaching sculpture classes in the Art School of Ponteareas. Jose continues his formation with studies of drawing, illustration, painting, comic, and mainly anatomy since human body and mostly countenance have a constant presence in his work. In his most recent stage he begins to experiment with quartz, quartzite, limestone, wood or smelting on a constant search for new materials and new forms of expression.
