Choreography, Rehearsal Clips and Dance Video

Single pieces of dance, put up one at a time by the people who made them. Some are full performance recordings, some are two minutes of a phrase being worked out against a studio mirror. A few were built for the camera rather than the stage, and read differently for it.

Most dance listings lean on video, uploaded or embedded from YouTube and Vimeo, and the note beside it carries what a recording leaves out: who danced it, who lit it, what the piece is about, how long it runs. Nothing stops a page holding stills from the run, a scanned score or a long written account instead; sound often arrives on its own as an audio file or a SoundCloud embed.

Every work links back to whoever posted it, and from there to the contact details they published themselves. That matters in dance more than it looks, because the credit on a video is often four names deep and the person who choreographed it is not always the person who filmed it. Ask them. Watching is open to anyone.

Dance documentation is honest about its own limits. A wide fixed shot keeps the spacing and loses the face; a close edit does the opposite. Choreographers often post both, plus rehearsal footage nobody was meant to see, because a phrase in progress explains a decision the finished piece hides. Read the caption before you judge the camera.
