Editorial and Children's Book Illustrators

Illustration · Artists

Illustrators who publish their own work here: editorial, publishing, children's books, comics, character design and commercial commissions. A profile is a full portfolio rather than the four images that fit a grid, plus the contact details the artist chose to make public. Reading a profile does not require an account.

Illustration is a trade as much as an art. An editorial illustrator is briefed on Monday and filed by Wednesday; a picture book artist lives with the same characters for a year. Portfolios carry that difference: roughs beside finals, character turnarounds, colour scripts, spreads photographed flat, sequential pages read in order.

Write to an illustrator directly: the contact tab carries the route they want a brief to arrive by, and the brief goes to them, not through us. Following costs a free account and nothing else; new work from anyone you follow lands in a chronological feed.

Hiring an illustrator is mostly a matching problem: the line, the palette, the way a face is drawn. That is why the useful thing is volume of evidence, a whole run of jobs rather than a shortlist of hits, with the artist's note on what each job was for. Search by discipline and read what people actually made, then send the brief yourself.
